Salamander Walks

ISHMAEL ANNOBIL: WRITER / PRODUCER / DIRECTOR / CINEMATOGRAPHER

Ishmael Annobil is a London-based poet, filmmaker, journalist, digital composer, emblemist, and the founder of Stonedog Productions.

Apart from Salamander Walks, he has directed four keynote art documentaries, including

Kenji Yoshida: Artist of the Soul; In the Presence of Awe: The Transvangarde, and Hornsleth: Product of Love.

His documentary feature, Linda Karshan: Choreographing the Page, is currently in post, while he writestwo major socio-political features,

and develops two fictional films, Icarus (a folksy Sci-fi set in Yorkshire) and Drosophila ( psychological thriller).

Born in Accra, Ghana, in 1958, Ishmael is a master photographer and pioneer of important low-light techniques.

His photography has also been published in prominent publications, including The Independent Newspaper,

and the prestigious French magazine M3. Recently anthologised in Another English (The Poetry Foundation, America),

Ishmael has published two collections of poetry, namely Seven Horn Elegy and Ethiop,

a photographic monograph, Insomnia, and one music album, Zingliwu.

He is also the founder/editor of international art and design online journal Chiaroscuro Magazine.

Ishmael attended Christian Methodist Secondary School (Ghana), studied Social Anthropology extramurally

at Goldsmith’s College, and he undertook a PgDip in Visual Communications at West Herts College.

In 2014, he singlehandedly revived the lost art of Gadangme emblem making

with his monograph of forty-four original emblems , Abetei: Modern Gadangme Emblems.

HOSSEIN TARAZ: CAMERAMAN / EDITOR

Hossein is a London-based Iranian filmmaker of note. He trained in his country’s Ministry of Information film unit as a cinematographer. He has

freelanced for an American TV network and a news and as a self-directing current affairs videographer, and has worked on numerous films,

including short filmic studies characterised by the sense of loneliness and of exile..

His astute Iranian training coupled with his artistic honesty and poetic vision were critical to the realisation of Salamander Walks.

When not shooting films Hossein freelances as a social and ceremonial videographer

and photographer in the British Iranian community. He is an animal lover, keen gardner and great cook.


MAX MALLEN: CAMERAMAN / 2ND UNIT DIRECTOR

Max is a versatile film director, with exceptional cinematographical flair and know-how. He is the founder of Frontrow Picturehouse,

and he has collaborated with Stonedog on many keynote projects, notably Kirsty MacCall 10.10.10.

He has worked with a wide range of corporate and media clients including Google, Microsoft, Techcrunch, Cisco, EE, Gumball Rally,

Courvoisier, Yell, Network Rail, Shell, Vidal Sasson, Mercedes Benz and Channel 4.

Max has an MA in screen directing from london univeristy of arts and a BA in filmmaking.

His awards include a nomination for the Royal TV Association Best Documentary and a Bafta for best short film.

He is currently directing his first feature, A Shoulder to Cry On, and a horror shot, The Landlady,

and editing Ishmael Annobil’s documentary, Linda Karshan: Choreographing the Page.
